Who am I?

Background & Profile

About Me

I've worked in the software industry since 2014, when I graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. The continuous pursuit of seeking out and working with top experts has taken me to companies, groups, and conferences around the country. I've worked with clients from around the world, building useful solutions and code projects that make a positive impact. I strive to learn more each and every day.

There are a few core technologies such as C#, .NET, Azure, JavaScript, and git that I use as my primary tool set at work. I read and write about new technology and develop new code which is released almost every day.
I enjoy building technology which has a real-life impact: it enables a business to grow, it changes the way people interact, it opens new markets.

I've tried to integrate the work ethic and accountability I learned in the world of college athletics directly into my professional career, with marked success.
I can drive projects forward in a variety of situations by helping a group work better together, hearing out a key subject matter expert, or building a timely solution with code that solves the problem altogether.

On a daily basis I write code, tests, documentation, diagrams, and blog posts; I set up and execute deployments, build and manage cloud environments, build and lead agile programming teams, orchestrate training sessions, manage team travel to client locations, and handle organizational change management for companies adopting new technologies.

Technology applied pragmatically can change the world, and I want to help.

Temple University

Education

2010 Sept - 2014 May

Temple University,
Fox School of Business

B.B.A., Management Information Systems,
Electives Focused in
Computer Science & Mathematics

3.48 Major GPA,
2-Time Academic All-Conference,
Athletic Director's Honor Roll

During my time at Temple, I balanced the responsibilities of being a Division 1 athlete with my academic pursuits in Computer Science, Technology, and the science of Business Management. I was the Vice President of Information Technology in The Association for Information Systems (AIS), a student professional organization within the Management Information Systems major at The Fox School of Business at Temple University. During my time with AIS I helped lead a complete overhaul of the IT Architecture of the entire organization, debuting a new web presence in 2013 that included automated attendance tracking at meetings, a payment portal that completely automated the payment of group dues and fees, a news portal that allowed the rapid dissemination of event updates and messages, and a fully custom-built authorization, profile management, and administration system. The launch of this site, which was unprecedented in other chapters of the organization at other schools, helped win Temple AIS Chapter of the Year honors at the National AIS Chapter Leadership Conference in Phoenix in 2014. The site was written in PHP, MySQL, Javascript, HTML5, CSS3, and the Laravel 4 Framework.

As an athlete, I played a role in helping Temple Football achieve its first bowl game appearance and victory since the 1979 Garden State Bowl when our team won the 2011 Gildan New Mexico Bowl in Albequerque, New Mexico. My teammates during that time were an inspirational group, and we pushed each other towards success both on and off the field: I received an Academic All-Conference Award immediately after the season was over from The BIG EAST Conference. It would be the first of two Academic All-Conference Awards I received at Temple, the second coming from the American Athletic Conference (AAC) two years later. I was fortunate enough to participate in a littany of community service events and organizations during my time as an athlete, including volunteering as a 'Big Brother' in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Southeastern PA program, volunteering my afternoons in the summer to help feed the homeless at a soup kitchen at Bright Hope Baptist Church in North Philadelphia, and working on event setup and tear-down for numerous Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure events for all four years of my time at Temple. More recently, I've donated my time to help charity organizations to develop web sites and management systems as a software engineer volunteer at Philly GiveCamp. This code development event is geared towards enabling non-profits and charity organizations to utilize the latest and greatest technology and access the best local programming talent at no cost to them. I helped the organization build numerous technological solutions that helped address the needs of people who were homeless or had physical or mental disabilities.

I engaged in three internships during my years at Temple, all of which helped me attain real-world, industry-standard experience before ever having a degree in hand, and also allowed me to show my passion for what I do. During one summer, I worked an internship at Mesa Technical Associates, a company in Moorestown, NJ that is responsible for the maintenance and network upkeep of many cellular tower sites in North America. The solution I created, and which is still in use today as the tracking system for all of the company sites, involved migrating over 42,000 data points and working alongside dozens of key global stakeholders including Sprint, Comcast, and Nortel. The system allows the company to run their operations on an easy-to-use database-driven application, and replaced their previous operations involving manual data entry and flat file storage.

I graduated from Temple with a 3.48 GPA in my major, a 3.24 overall GPA, and while taking as many Computer Science and Math courses as electives as possible to prepare me for the software world. I continue to work closely with Temple University, and The Association for Information Systems, to help train younger students to develop and maintain the website and grow technical skills as developers using what I've learned from industry experience.
